FESCO Connects Russia and Iran with Trans-Caspian Service
Russian transport operator FESCO Transportation Group, in cooperation with the port of Olya, is launching the Trans-Caspian intermodal service FESCO Russia Iran Service (FRIS), to transport cargo between Russia and Iran. According to the company, the service includes shipping over the Caspian Sea and transshipment in ports Olya and Nowshahr or Bandar-e Anzali, as well as railway, motorway and highway transportation over Russia and Iran. The service would see containerized and general cargoes shipped between the Russian port of Olya and the Iranian ports with an estimated en-route time of five days. Russian Naval Fleet to Dock at Iran’s Caspian Port
A Russian naval fleet was going to berth at a harbor used by Iran’s Navy in the Caspian Sea on Sunday as part of routine military interactions between Tehran and Moscow. The Russian military watercraft will dock in the Iranian Navy’s fourth maritime zone to highlight the notion that the Caspian Sea littoral states regard the waterbody as the sea of peace and friendshipThe visit is also seen as part of efforts for strengthening Iran-Russia amicable ties and promoting maritime cooperation between the two countriesIt will be the third time in the past 8 years that a Russian naval fleet travels to Iran’s territorial waters Back in October 2014, another Russian fleet, comprised of Dagestan and Grad Sviyazhsk missile-launching warships, made a three-day port call at the Iranian northern port city of AnzaliEarlier, in September last year, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on the Caspian Sea littoral states to make joint efforts for the well-being of the countries’ people. “The Caspian Sea should be the center of development and welfare, and the symbol of peace, security and cooperation among our nations,” Rouhani said in a speech to the 4th summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states, held in Russia’s Astrakhan.The president insisted that only the five countries around the Caspian Sea should be entitled to maritime activities, rejecting the presence of armed forces from other foreign countries in the sea. Iran to boost economic ties with littoral countries via Anzali port
Iran plans to boost trade and economic ties with the Caspian littoral countries via the Anzali port in the Gilan province. Deputy Governor of the Gilan province Mohammad Hossein Asgharian said the potentials of this northern province should be mobilized for an effective presence in regional markets, Iranian IRNA news agency reported. Asgharian made the remarks at the meeting of Iranian exporters with the Gilan province officials. Asgharian went on to say that completing the Qazvin-Rasht-Anzali railway project, construction of a new port in the Caspian Sea, and development of the Anzali port are among the administration's plans for boosting the province's transit capabilities.
